DMMMSU through the Institute of Environmental Governance (IEG) collaborates with Tanggol Kalikasan (TK), the Municipality of Bacnotan and Municipality of Rosario, La Union for the implementation of various environment and natural resources-related projects.

During the environmental governance webinar series spearheaded by the IEG Center, the LGUs formulated their Area Specific Action Plan incorporating priority green projects. Under the Beach Forest Development Project with LGU Bacnotan, mangroves and other associated tree species will be planted and nurtured along Baroro River and other identified coastal areas.

On the other hand, the partnership with LGU Rosario focuses on Agroforestry and Updating of the Municipal 10-Year Solid Waste Management Plan (SWMP). Fruit-bearing and other forest trees will be grown at the municipal multiplier farm located at Brgy. Vila. IEG faculty trainers will also assist the LGU in updating its SWMP.

The agreements were signed by the Parties during the video conference held on August 3, 2021. It was attended by the Municipal Officials of Bacnotan and Rosario headed by Hon. Francisco Angelito L. Fontanilla and Hon. Bellarmin A. Flores II respectively, Atty. Ma. Ronely D. Bisquera-Sheen, TK Executive Director, and Dr. Jaime I. Manuel, Jr., DMMMSU President. Signing of the agreements were witnessed by Dir. Virgilio P. Sison, CESE (DILG La Union Provincial Director), Dr. Cynthia Rodriguez (DMMMSU VP for Research and Extension), Dr. Junifer Rey E. Tabadunda (NLUC Chancellor), Ms. Karen Ballada (NLUC Extension Head), Mr. Celso H. Jucutan (IEG Coordinator) and other faculty trainers.

These IEG projects are part of the Environmental Justice Sector Reform in the Philippines Project (ESJRP) funded by US Department of State – Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) and US Department of Interior – International Technical Assistance Program (US DOI ITAP).
