On the second day of the seven-day training in Technology in Teaching Advanced Mathematics, Research, and Development of Instructional Materials and Data Science, mathematics instructors from the three campuses of the university trained in geometric construction using the TikZ software. The speaker for the second day of lecture and workshop session is Prof. Joseph S. Tabadero Jr., a Special Science Teacher IV of the Philippine Science High School – CAR. He is the division head of the Analytics Unit of the Philippine Science High School. TikZ is a package for LaTeX (“Lah-tech” or “Lay-tech”) used for creating graphic elements such as plane figures, 3D figures, polar coordinate system, graphs such as lines, parabola, hyperbola, and other graphics such as tessellations which are used in the teaching of mathematics. Prof. Tabadero showed useful codes and their corresponding functions in order to generate mathematical figures in portable document format (pdf) file. “Huwag mong i-expect na mamaster ang paggamit ng TikZ in a single sitting and if there are errors, you can always go back to the code,” Prof. Tabadero said during his lecture session. #Photo credits: Prof. Noemi Boado, Prof. Rhemalyn Casem, and Prof. Marife Cariaso
