As part of the University’s mental health and psychosocial support , the BS Psychology Department of the College of Arts and Sciences of the South La Union Campus organized a training workshop entitled, “Thriving Through Tough Times: Training-Workshop on Psychological First Aid” last April 21-22, 2021.
The PFA follows a globally recommended model for supporting people during emergencies and is tailored to the specific challenges of Covid-19.
It aims to enable the University faculty and staff to develop their skills and confidence in providing key psychological support to people affected by the pandemic.
It is also conducted in response to the perceived negative effect of the COVID-19 pandemic to the mental health of the faculty members whose bulk of work is doubled and therefore vulnerable to mental health issues.
In addition, the training also aimed to help the University faculty and staff to develop an understanding of how emergencies such as Covid-19 can affect the nation, how to recognise people who may be at increased risk of distress and what to do about it.
This same training was held at MLUC (May 10-11, 2021) and will be held at NLUC on June 10-11, 202.
Forty participants are accommodated in each campus per training. Prof. Zenaida DC. Pascua, Program Chair of BS Psychology served as the project leader and the BS Psychology Faculty members acted as facilitators.
