Two on-going apiculture researches, a DA-BAI-funded completed development paper, and one continuing extension project, are qualified for oral and poster presentations, in the upcoming 2020 Regional Symposium on R&D Highlights. This was the result of the recently concluded Commodity Review on Forestry, Agroforestry, Environment, and Apiculture, conducted by the Ilocos Agriculture and Resources Research and Development Consortium (ILARRDEC), held on October 6, 2020 via Google Meet, and was hosted by the University of Northern Philippines (UNP).

The following are the titles of the papers advancing to the said conference and for oral presentation: 1) “Floral Visitors and Characteristics of Yellow Alder (Turnera ulmifolia L.) and White Alder (Turnera subulata J.)” presented by Mishima Soliba; 2) “Compendium of Bee Plants in the Provinces of La Union and Benguet” presented by Rolyne Mae Pajarillo; and 3) “Strengthening of Beekeeping through Capability Enhancement and Upgrading of Queen Bee Stocks” presented by Arvin Tuyan.

Team members include: 1) Merlito Tangalin, Merlito Antolin, Rolyne Mae Pajarillo, Karen Ballada, Emmanuel Dangle, Mark Anthony Santiago, and Samuel Ganuelas; 2) Merlito Tangalin, Merlito Antolin, David de Castro, Mishima Soliba, Herve Orpilla, and Karen Ballada; and 3) Pablo Masiong, Lolita Dulay, Arvin Sobrepeña, George Bondot, Mac Donald Acosta, David de Castro, Mishima Soliba, Rolyne Mae Pajarillo, Rizalde Claro, and Serene Genesis Tuyan.

The continuing extension project of Adora Garcia, Mac Donald Acosta, Arvin Tuyan, George Bondot, Merlito Antolin, and Mark Anthony Santiago, titled: “Bee Health Development”, was also recommended for poster category presentation.

 The commodity review is an annual activity spearheaded by the ILARRDEC that evaluates completed, on-going, and new activities on technology generation, adoption, verification, development, applied communication, and on-farm projects. On the other hand, the regional symposium is an activity where most significant research and development (R&D) findings are presented, and it is where the best technologies/ information generated by the consortium member-agencies i.e. DMMMSU, are selected.
