To promote a safe and well-organized workplace and to increase quality and productivity in an organization, NARTDI, through Engr. Rowel M. Munar, Quality Assurance Officer, initiated a recapitulation of the 7s among NARTDI personnel at the NARTDI Conference Hall on June 16, 2020.
Engr. Rowel M. Munar attended the training-workshop on ISO 7S (Quality Workplace Standards) held at the DMMMSU-Mid La Union Campus, City of San Fernando, La Union last June 9-10, 2020. This was spearheaded by Dr. Estrella N. Perez, DMMMSU Vice President for Administration, and Dr. Angelita J. Prado, DMMMSU Quality Assurance Director.
Mr. Juvie dela Cruz, consultant from the JBDC-Occupational Health, Safety and Environment Consultancy, served as the key speaker.
The 7S stands for: Sort, Straighten, Scrub, Standardize, Sustain, Safety, and Spirit. It is a fundamental approach to quality and productivity, safety, and efficiency in the workplace.
Originally, it was 5S which is a quality tool derived from five Japanese terms beginning with the letter “S” (Seiri or sort/separate, Seiton or set in order/straighten, Seiso or shine/clean, Seiketsu or standardize, and Shitsuke or sustain/discipline) used to create a workplace suited for visual control and clean production. Now, additional terms are Anzensei or safety and Chi-muwa-ku or spirit. (RMPajarillo)
