DMMMSU Research and Extension (R&E) Publication and IEC Materials Development Office organized a “Training Workshop on the New SOP – ISO for Publication and Conversion of Technical Reports (TRs) into Publishable Journal Articles 2025” for university research professionals. This was held at the International Convention Center, DMMMSU-North La Union Campus, Bacnotan, La Union, on February 13 and 14, 2025.

The workshop was designed to equip DMMMSU teaching and nonteaching personnel to align their research endeavors with international publication standards and ensure compliance with International Organization for Standardization (ISO) guidelines and institutional SOPs.

On the first day, Dr. Junifer Rey E. Tabafunda, Chancellor of DMMMSU – North La Union Campus, formally welcomed the participants. Dr. Angelina T. Gonzales, Vice President for Research Development and Innovation, provided the opening remarks, followed by an overview of the workshop presented by Prof. Luis A. Tattao. Four key topics were discussed: “Introduction to the New SOP-ISO for Research Publication” and “Journal Selection and Avoiding Predatory Publishers,” presented by Dr. Jomar L. Aban, Director of R&E Publication and IEC Materials Development, during the morning session. In the afternoon, Dr. Rinarose B. Budeng, University Coordinator for Research and Publication, addressed “Converting TRs into Journal Articles,” and Dr. Arnie G. Dizon, Assistant Professor IV from DMMMSU-South La Union Campus, discussed “Manuscript Formatting Based on Journal Requirements.”

The second day commenced with a recap of Day 1 and an open forum facilitated by Dr. Romeo C. Opeña, Coordinator for Extension Publication. Dr. Dizon again shared her expertise by presenting on “Writing the Results and Discussion Section,” while Dr. Budeng discussed “Peer Review and Manuscript Improvement.” In the afternoon session, Dr. Aban presented “Submission Processes and Responding to Reviewers.” Following the sessions, selected participants were given the opportunity to present their outputs.

By equipping university research professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complexities of international publication standards, including ISO guidelines and institutional SOPs, the workshop has laid a strong foundation for increased research visibility and impact.
