Graduate students enrolled in PhD in Mathematics Education at DMMMSU-SLUC College of Graduate Studies were recently introduced to the university’s extensive library e-learning resources and databases as part of their knowledge management (KM) coursework. The session, led by their KM Professor, Dr. Maricon C. Viduya, emphasized the multidisciplinary nature of knowledge management, highlighting the vital role of libraries in this field.

In their academic engagement last Saturday, February 7, 2025, Prof. Viduya emphasized the vital role of DMMMSU Libraries in facilitating access to vast academic resources and fostering an environment conducive to knowledge sharing and learning. The knowledge-sharing session aimed to expose the graduate students to the KM initiatives of DMMMSU and familiarize them with digital repositories, online journals, research databases, and other e-learning materials available through the university library. By integrating these resources into their academic journey, students can enhance their research capabilities and information literacy skills.

To provide an experiential understanding of the subject, Prof. Viduya invited Ms. Ana Nova Parrocha, College Librarian, to deliver a talk on the library’s extensive resources and services to her PhD students. Ms. Parrocha’s presentation focused on the robust online databases and digital platforms available to students, researchers, and faculty members. These include GALE, EBSCOHOST, TRITECH DIGITAL MEDIA, BIBLIOTEX, DIGITAL MEDIA LEARNING, VitalSource, Scientific e-Resources, Scholaar, SCOPUS, SCIENCEDIRECT, STARBOOKS, and access to PHL CHED CONNECT. These databases provide a wealth of academic materials, ensuring that DMMMSU remains at the forefront of research and innovation. The students had the opportunity to experience navigating these online resources for their academic and research needs.

Also, Ms. Parrocha highlighted AskDORLA (Ask DMMMSU Online Reference Library Assistant), an initiative that enhances library services by providing real-time assistance to users. This online reference service is designed to support students and faculty members in navigating the university’s vast collection of digital and print resources, making research more efficient and accessible.

Additionally, students had the opportunity to experience the library’s innovative design as a KM space, appreciating how its layout and facilities contribute to effective knowledge sharing and collaboration. They stayed in the Caferary, a space conducive to academic discussions and interactive learning.

Prof. Viduya commended the DMMMSU Libraries for their continuous efforts in implementing Knowledge Management initiatives that support academic excellence. By leveraging modern technology and innovative library services, DMMMSU Libraries serve as a benchmark for other institutions aiming to improve their knowledge-sharing frameworks.
