Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU) was honored with the Next Generation Capacity Development in Local Governance Award by the Department of Interior and Local Government – Local Government Academy (DILG-LGA) on December 12, 2024. DMMMSU is the sole awardee from Region 1.
Dr. Bernardo D. Lamadrid, Executive Director of the Open University System (OUS), received the award for the University at Centennial Hall, The Manila Hotel, Pasay City.
The Local Government Academy (LGA) serves as the DILG’s training arm, spearheading programs that empower local leaders and promote sustainable governance. The collaboration between DMMMSU and DILG-LGA was first formalized on January 6, 2006, through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This partnership was further strengthened on May 18, 2022, with DMMMSU’s inclusion in the Multi-Stakeholders Advisory Council (MSAC) and the Consortium of MSAC Libraries, represented by Dr. Sonia B. Siago, Director of the Library of DMMMSU. This strategic alliance underscores a shared commitment to leveraging expertise, resources, and data for mutual and regional development.
One of the partnership’s key outcomes is the establishment of an online information platform that streamlines access to shared data, promoting transparency and collaboration. This platform is a benchmark for similar initiatives, enhancing innovation and aligning academic and governance strengths with local and regional development goals.
The recognition highlights the university’s role as a key institutional partner in fostering innovation, empowering leaders, and driving excellence in local governance. (By Claudia Denise P. Barbadillo)
