On November 15, Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU) actively participated in the Fourth Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) 2024.
The event included the standard “Duck, Cover, and Hold” technique and an organized evacuation to designated holding areas to enhance the preparedness of students, faculty members, and nonteaching personnel.
Also, a series of training exercises and simulations were conducted to enhance DMMMSU community’s response in various emergency scenarios. The university’s disaster risk reduction management unit along with the medical unit also carried out a drill on emergency medical response, providing simulated treatment for “injured” participants. DRRM focal persons and trained personnel collaborated in search and conducted safety inspections of buildings and facilities as part of a hazard assessment protocol.
Meanwhile, the College of Fisheries in Sto. Tomas, La Union led a combined earthquake and tsunami drill, demonstrating quick response measures that would be crucial in coastal areas. This comprehensive approach aimed to better equip both students and personnel for real-world emergencies.
Prof. Randulph I. Navasca, University Disaster Risk Reduction Director, expressed appreciation to all departments involved and emphasized the importance of these preparedness exercises. “The active participation of everyone shows our shared commitment to safety and resilience,” he stated, encouraging all to continue practicing earthquake safety measures for a safe and informed community in times of crisis.
