The Senior Soiree, a group comprising Master in Development Administration (MDA) students from the College of Graduate Studies of the South La Union Campus met with the senior citizens of Capas, Agoo, La Union, on October 12, 2024, and provided them awareness on key topics — civil registration, lifestyle diseases, elderly nutrition, and PhilHealth benefits and updates.

This activity was in collaboration with LGU-Agoo, Rotary Club of Agoo (led by Ms. Wilma Estacio) and the Senior Citizen Association of Capas (led by Mr. Guillermo Medina).

Experts from various organizations shared their knowledge and expertise on these topics, providing valuable insights and practical advice for the participants. Ms. Lilian Difuntorum, the LGU Civil Registrar, enlightened the seniors on the importance of civil registration and the necessary procedures for obtaining essential documents like birth and marriage certificates. Prof. Marites Rivera, on the other hand, discussed the significance of healthy and productive aging, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a balanced diet and engaging in regular physical activity to prevent lifestyle diseases. Ms. Kris Isadora Baltazar, from PhilHealth, provided information on PhilHealth benefits and how senior citizens can maximize their coverage.

The event concluded with a lively fellowship lunch, organized as part of the Senior Soiree: Enrichment and Engagement Program. The MDA students were led by Dr. Janice Rhea P. Cabacungan, the Program Chair of MDA.

The gathering allowed the seniors to connect with each other and strengthened their ties within the community, enriching their overall experience.
