Artworks from 12 visual artists from the Bachelor of Culture and Arts Education are featured in a four-day exhibit at DMMMSU – South La Union Campus (SLUC) College of Education (CE) building. Queued along the corridors, the exhibits on acrylic and canvas revolving around the theme, “Maris iti Kultura: Colors of Culture” highlight subjects about local traditions, practices, and heritage rendered in modernist-cubism style. Every artwork is an embodiment of the preservation of local heritage and traditions.
The artists are Justin Anastacio, Aileen Mae Fredeluces, Mack Bryan Dispo, Iris Amiel Wana, Joana Paula Sanidad, Kim Barcelona, Kristel Ollero, Rochelle Paneda, Roxanne Gorospe, Shiela Orinion, Romely Querol, and Iris Laroco. These talented, homegrown young painters derived inspiration, compassion, and optimism from the Filipino life ways and occupations common in the Ilocos Region such as fisherfolks, farmers, and potters to acclaim their contribution to the rural agri-economy scene.
Before the exhibit, the students were taught by their apprenticeship masters of the different disciplines in visual art as part of their major subjects during the Midyear term from June to July, emphasizing the role of cultural observation and geographical allusions as a rich source of visual expression. The artworks can be viewed from August 27 to 31, 2024, from 8 am to 5 pm.
