Catering to the English Language needs of the SEA TEACHER, SEA-TVET, and Joint Curriculum Program (JCP)—with credit transfer system— participants coming to DMMMSU to pursue programs in various disciplines, the first series of the three- day English Proficiency Program was conducted in the South La Union Campus (SLUC) on August 21, 2019.
The 34 Indonesian student-participants participated in four interactive and workshop-intense sessions facilitated by faculty members of the College of Arts and Sciences.
Ms. Ginie D. Cortez facilitated the “English Made Easy 1” session, while Dr. Jesus Rafael B. Jarata engaged them in fun-filled speaking exercises in the topic, “The Art of Speaking”.
Exploring the beauty of the campus while doing simple outdoor team-building activities, the participants also took the “Language on Foot” session facilitated by Prof. Joji Ann F. Regacho.
Moreover, Mr. Rusty Liclican introduced them to Philippine culture through dances in his workshop, “Owning English through Culture”.
Zamtrio Purbo, 2nd year English student of Universitas PGRI Semarang and a JCP participant, said that he was impressed as to how the speakers conducted the proficiency program. “I enjoyed the games and activities because they were facilitated intensively. I think I am now confident to use English everywhere, bonus is the Philippine dance we also learned”, Purbo added.
The program will run for two more days to be hosted by MLUC on August 24, and NLUC on August 31. After which, a Language Festival on September 6 will serve as their culminating program.
