A comprehensive Disability Sensitivity Training was held for faculty members and non-teaching personnel at the CE Multi-Purpose Hall today, April 30, 2024. It aims to foster knowledge and sensitivity towards the challenges faced by differently-abled and physically disabled individuals.
This training was approved by DMMMSU President Jaime I. Manuel, Jr. referring to it as a welcome initiative to incorporate accessibility, sensitivity, and inclusivity in the University’s programs and projects.
The initiative was spearheaded by Ms. Perla A. Sotelo, Head for Administrative Services, and designated University Focal Person on Senior Citizen and Disability Affairs; Dr. Rahfie C. Nullar, Head for HRMO; and Dr. Marlyn M. Amante, Campus GAD Focal Person; and was facilitated by Dr. Mark Anthony Barroso Inocencio, City Disability Affairs Officer IV of San Fernando, La Union.
At the end of the training, attendees learned about sustaining the principles of the Magna Carta for Disabled Persons and other applicable laws, correctly identify various types of disabilities, appreciate the strengths and accomplishments of individuals with disabilities, and enhance their skills in fostering inclusion and overcoming biases when interacting with people with disabilities.
This training underscores DMMMSU MLUC’s commitment to promoting inclusivity and understanding. (By Arrianne Michelle F. Fabro)
