DMMMSU Professor Nora Oredina, Dean of the College of Education, actively participated in the Nakem 2023 International Conference on “Herstories” and “Histories” of Diversity: Narrating (Im) Migrant and Multiple Lives and Engaging the Community in the Margins to promote global collaboration and enhance educational opportunities. The conference took place at the Double Tree Hotel by Hilton in Newark-Fremont, California, USA, from November 15 to 17, 2023.

The program commenced through plenary sessions. Speakers were Dr. Rhonda Padilla, President of Panpacific University; Dr. Arcelita Imasa, Primary Health Doctor/National Alliance for Filipino Concerns; and Dr. Felina Espique, Vice President for Academic Affairs, SLU.

The second-day sessions were divided into breakouts for the presentation of research. Dr. Nora Oredina, presented her research titled ‘Language and Academic Performance of Grade I Pupils in DMMMSU Elementary Laboratory School.’ Also, Dr. Oredina contributed to the scholarly discourse and is one of the Board Members of NAKEM Philippines. In a short interview with Dr. Oredina, she shared that “she’s honored to work with Nakem International without Borders to advocate for linguistic justice, cultural democracy, and emancipatory education.”

The third day culminated with parallel sessions followed by an open forum. The event also featured ‘Ramrambak: Cultural Night and Scholarship Banquet,” a festive conclusion celebrating diverse cultures and recognized academic achievements. (By RMV)
