Twelve (12) librarians from the different Campuses of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU) converged at the University of Northern Philippines (UNP) in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, on October 25 to 27, 2023. They attended the Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. – Ilocos Region Librarians Council (PLAI-IRLC) three-day seminar-workshop themed “Reframing the Librarians Mindset Towards a Proactive Research Culture”.
The overarching goal of the seminar workshop was to equip participants with the essential knowledge and skills required to become effective researchers and support library patrons in their pursuit of informed research.
Honorable Mayor Jose C. Singson, Jr. graced the event as the Keynote Speaker, inspiring the librarians with his insights on the importance of research in community development.
Two renowned experts in the field of research, Dr. David A. Cabonero and Dr. Joseph M. Cristobal, served as Resource Speakers, sharing their wisdom and experience with the eager participants.
The seminar workshop featured a comprehensive program, combining lectures and interactive workshops, encompassing a wide range of topics.
The event included essential organizational activities. New officers for PLAI-IRLC were elected, with Ms. Diana Rose B. Gonzales of NLUC, who was elected Treasurer. The event also marked a milestone with the inaugural recognition of the Most Outstanding Librarians in Region 1, with Ms. Ruby Lyn C. Narra (MLUC) receiving an award in the Academic Library Category. Furthermore, the recognition of board passers was held, acknowledging the achievements of individuals like Ms. Rikki Mae N. Nisperos, our newly licensed librarian from MLUC.
