The Directors, Coordinators, and Heads of Gender and Development (GAD), and Information, Communication, and Technology (ICT) participated in the Webinar on Using Gender Data for Analysis in the Context of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Monitoring on October 18, 2023.

The webinar, organized by the Philippine Statistics Authority Regional Statistical Services Office 1 (PSA RSSO1) in collaboration with the Philippine Statistical Association, Inc. (PSAI) was held to equip Regional Line Agencies, Local Government Units, State Universities and Colleges, and the private sector in providing necessary data support to monitor Region 1’s performance vis-à-vis the SDGs.

Zeny Garcillan of PSA Region 1 discussed the following topics: Overview of Sex, Gender, and Gender Statistics, Sample and Sources of Data for Gender Statistics, and Gender-Specific Indicators in the SDG.

The University’s GAD Office, headed by Dr. Sherlyn Nitura, GAD Director , considers one of her foci the generation of gender statistics that adequately reflect differences and inequality in the situation of women and men in all areas of life, and that capture specific gender issues.

After participating in the webinar, the GAD and ICT heads met to brainstorm and come up with strategies to enhance the University’s generation of sex-disaggregated data which can also be used in instruction, research, and extension. The webinar equipped them to generate sex-disaggregated data or gender statistics for policy formulation, development planning, and project monitoring of Gender and Development (GAD) programs in DMMMSU. (By Ces Myra P.
