Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU) inked a Memorandum of Agreement with Sun Asia Energy Incorporated (SAEI) for the conduct of On-farm Trials using Improved Brackishwater Enhanced Selected Tilapia (iBEST) and Shrimp in Brackishwater Environment. The MOA signing was held at DMMMSU Central Administration Building on January 4, 2023.

Ms. Maria Theresa C. Capellan, President of SAEI; and Dr. Jaime I. Manuel, Jr., President of DMMMSU, represented the two parties. Also present as witnesses were Ms. Precious Ann B. Francisco, Business Development Assistant Manager of Sun Asia; Mr. John Raymond Lumawag, Accounta Management Manager of Sun Asia; Dr. Angelita T. Gonzales, VP for Research and Extension; Dr. Faith S. Tadeo, Dean of the College of Fisheries and Project Leader; Prof. Keneth G. Bayani, Director for Research; Prof. Emerita D. Galiste,Director for Extension; Atty. Rozzane Victoria Buccat-Villamin, University Legal Officer, and Prof. Donnie Ray G. Sanchez, faculty member from the College of Fisheries.
SEI will secure financial assistance in the conduct of on-farm trials of saline tilapia and shrimp using the solar photovoltaic system; provide the demonstration site for on-farm trials and install the solar on stilts in the location mutually agreed to; assist in the deployment of foreign scientists with expertise in aquaculture cum solar on stilts in order to accelerate the development of the project and build local capacity in this field of study; and operate and maintain the solar on stilts and undertake oversight functions on the operations and management of the on-farm trial.
As for its part, DMMMSU will conduct on-farm trials in the designated ponds using research parameters mutually agreed upon by both Parties; provide technical personnel necessary for the efficient and effective operations of the on-farm trials; provide the use of its research fishponds and other facilities for the On-farm Trial of Improved Brackishwater Enhanced Selected Tilapia (iBEST) and Shrimp in Brackishwater Environment; and provide technical information on the selection of stocks and feeds, as well as in the development of the good aquaculture practices to ensure optimal performance of the selected species under the environment of solar on stilts on the designated demonstration sites.
In February this year, the two parties will implement the project Pilot Testing of Solar Photovoltaic System in Brackishwater Aquaculture in Pampanga which is worth 4 million pesos.
