Steffen Joshua Solomon and John  Carlo Flores of DMMMSU-Mid La Union Campus’ College of Management (COM) bagged Bronze Award in the Young Chefs Competition of the Philippine Culinary Cup 2022 held at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City on August 5. The competition was part of this year’s World Food Expo held in the same venue.

Meanwhile, Daryll John Cabatic and Julius Caezar Galleto, also COM students, joined the Executive Chef Networking at the Conrad Hotel last August 3-4, 2022— as part of the PhilCan EDUCON Magic7+ Philippine Culinary Cup activities, under the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Indigenous Knowledge System and Cultural Management (IKSCM) Program. The PCC invited the Magic 7 young chefs to compete focusing on the indigenous cuisine from their provinces and institutions as part of the CHED-IKSCM program.

Other participants were students from Central Luzon State University, Central Mindanao University and Mariano Marcos State University. They had a chance to work with Conrad Manila’s Executive Chef Warren Brown and Executive Chef James McFarland of the University of Saskatchewan during the Executive Chef Networking.

The event, which was hosted by the Embassy of Canada, highlighted Canadian cuisines and ingredients in the dinner dubbed as “Flavors of Canada” to celebrate more than 50 years of Philippines-Canada diplomatic relations.  Among the attendees of the said dinner were Canada’s Ambassador to the Philippines, Hon. Peter MacArthur, CHED Chair J. Prospero E. De Vera III, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Alfredo E. Pascual and other Philippine government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, investors and civil societies.

Prior to the PCC events, students from the competing universities were trained through a Culinary Arts Master Boot Camp at CLSU on July 18 to 20, 2022. The boot camp was “a working avenue for knowledge sharing between and among the participating institutions on the latest culinary trends. Moreover, it will also serve as a preparation for the upcoming Executive Chefs Monitoring Event and the PCC”.

PCC is the most prestigious international Culinary Competition in the country, being the only (WACS) World Association of Chef Societies-endorsed Continental competition to be held in the Philippines.
