Relative to the implementation of Physical Activities Toward Health and Fitness (PATHFIT), the heads of the different programs of the University attended the Curriculum Workshop the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Regional Office 1, sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs at the DMMMSU International Convention Center on July 14, 2022.

CHEDROI officials, headed by Dr. Danilo B. Bose, OIC-Director IV, were present to conduct the curriculum review on all undergraduate program offerings of DMMMSU’s three campuses (South La Union Campus, Mid La Union Campus, and North La Union Campus). The curricula were modified to adopt the four Physical Activities Towards Health and Fitness (PATHFIT) courses in lieu of the Physical Education courses per CMO 39, s. 2021.

Under the PATHFIT subjects are the following: PATHFIT101 (Movement Competency Training), PATHFIT102 (Exercise-Based Fitness Activity), PATHFIT103 (Individual, Dual and Team Sports) and PATHFIT104 (Outdoor Adventure Activities).

During the Opening Program, the University President Dr. Jaime I. Manuel, Jr, represented by VPAA Dr. Elsie M. Pacho, reminded participants that “we must be faithful to our purpose while being adaptable and resilient in the face of changing conditions”.

Meanwhile, after the curriculum workshop and review done by CHEDRO1 Education Supervisors , Program Chairs and College and Institute Directors received their program certification as proof of their revised curriculum; and that their program curriculum has been approved, effective 2022-2023.

Also present along with Dr. Bose were the following: Dr. Reyen M. Sabate (Chief Education Program Specialist), Engr. Angelica Q. Dolores (Supervising Education Program Specialist), Dr. Arnold  V. Ancheta, Mr. Melquiades C. Ancheta, Dr. Al Gerald S. Barde, Mr. Elvin E.  Casem, Dr. Ricky A. Cera, Dr. Juan Primitivo P.  Petrola and Ms. Myrelle Faith  D. Mina (Education Supervisors).

PATHFIT is a new course that was created through CHED memorandum no. 39 series of 2021 and will be implemented in the 1st semester of AY 2022-2023. It is established on the idea that there is physical education for everyone through RA 5708 or The Schools Physical Education and Sports Development Act of 1969. (JRBJ)
