DMMMSU Institute of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (IABE) team, headed by Engr. Roel D. Supsup assisted the Bagbag-Urayong-Santiago (BUS) Farmers’ Irrigators’ Association Inc. at Central Luzon State University (CLSU), Munoz, Nueva Ecija, on June 10, 2022, as they scouted CLSU’s farming technologies which they can adopt to advance their livelihood. The association was particularly interested in using hydroponics, aquaponics, and indoor and vertical farming systems (IVFS).
Engr. Christopher Pascual, IVFS expert and College of Engineering faculty of CLSU, received the group at their technology demonstration farm, where they grow lettuce and other high-value crops. Afterward, the group visited Ramon Magsaysay Center for Agricultural Resources and Environmental Studies for organic farming technologies, the Center for Tropical Mushroom Research and Development for mushroom production, and Agriculture and Food Technology Business Incubator for agripreneurial practices.
In an interview with Mr. Jeff Bernardo, BUS Farmers’ Irrigators’ Association Inc. President, he mentioned that having this hands-on experience in CLSU enriched their knowledge and retained what he learned for much longer than from lectures or readings. He thanked DMMMSU for arranging and coordinating the tour.
This tour is part of the series of pieces of training that DMMMSU provides to BUS Farmers’ Irrigators’ Association Inc. to capacitate them in terms of irrigation, cultivation, production, marketing, and sustainable development. (MEDP)
