In celebration of Earth Day 2022, another round of Recycler’s Fair: Palit Basura Project was implemented on April 21, 2022 at the Mid-La Union Campus, City of San Fernando, La Union.
Through the activity, a total of 461 kilograms of recyclables composed of paper (196 kgs.), assorted plastics (107 kgs.), glass materials (149.5 kgs.) and metals (8.5 kgs.) were recovered.
This initiative supports the implementation of Republic Act 9003 otherwise known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000. Recovery of recyclables reduces the amount of wastes being disposed at the city engineered sanitary landfill facility. It also promotes proper waste segregation and income generation from the waste stream.
This project is initiated by the University Environmental Management Unit (EMU) with support from its campus counterpart in cooperation with Dragon8 Junkshop. (chj)
