DMMMSU was invited by Kangwon National University (KNU) in South Korea, DMMMSU’s partner institution, to send students to participate in the 2022 KNU Online Winter School Program’s “Introduction to Korea for International Students”. Seventy-two students from SLUC, NLUC and MLUC participated in the said program which runs from January 17-28, 2022.
KNU prepared eight basic Korean classes where students chose between a class taught in either Korean or English. Apart from the basic Korean classes, five special classes highlighted a variety of South Korean history, culture, and a glimpse of its economy. There were also programs like Culture Day “In My Country”, a special class where students presented their own country’s wonderful culture. In addition, a Talent Show, “Remember Me”, was actively participated in by participants to show their talents to other students.
With classes held for three hours a day, KNU officially jumpstarted its winter program through a zoom meeting with all the participants all over the world. This aimed to quench the curiosity of student-participants who are interested in South Korea and its beautiful culture. The two-week program also allowed participants to earn 2 university credits in KNU.
DMMMSU, through the Office of Internationalization, Linkages and ETTEAP, called for participants and screened applicants, and participated in the selection process which included the submission of necessary documents that were used as bases in the qualification for the online camp.
The program brought together students and academics for a unique intercultural experience through lectures with themes focused on global and Korean and Korean language and culture. DMMMSU students took courses with other participants around the globe. Completion of the program will only be acknowledged when a student has attended at least 80 percent of all classes; therefore, students must attend at least 8 days out of the 10-day course.
