On March 27, 2025, Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU), in collaboration with Region 1 Advocates for Gender Equality (RAGE I), commemorated the 21st Women with Disabilities Day. The event, aligned with Proclamation No. 744, highlighted the challenges and achievements of women with disabilities and the promotion of  inclusivity and empowerment.

The celebration was spearheaded by DMMMSU’s Office of the Focal Person for Senior Citizens and Disability Affairs led by Ms. Perla A. Sotelo. With her are the team facilitators from Gender and Development, and Human Resources, led respectively by Dr. Marlyn M. Amante, and Ms. Kizzy Lyn M. Orque. It featured engaging talk-show segments led by distinguished experts in disability rights and advocacy, including Atty. Honorio G. Buccat Jr., Dean of DMMMSU College of Law; Atty. Myra Diwata Rivera-Caroy, law practitioner and professor; Dr. Jasmin P. Sibayan, Master Teacher I at San Fernando South Central Integrated School; and Mr. Romeo M. Tan, Officer-in-Charge of the Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) in San Fernando City.

Faculty members, non-teaching staff, student leaders, and RAGE I officers actively participated. The event also included product exhibitions showcasing creations by women with disabilities, talent presentations, recognition ceremonies, and an On-the-Spot Essay Writing Contest for students and government representatives.

The celebration underscored DMMMSU’s commitment to promoting inclusivity and empowering women across all sectors while aligning with the national theme: “Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas.” and the 2025 Women with Disabilities day theme: Babaeng May Kapansansan, Katuwang sa Pag-angat sa Bagong Pilipinas”. By highlighting the achievements of women with disabilities and addressing their challenges through meaningful discussions and activities, the event reinforced the importance of creating a society where every individual can thrive without barriers.

This annual observance continues to serve as a platform for advocacy and awareness, ensuring that the rights and contributions of women with disabilities are recognized and celebrated nationwide.
