DMMMSU-NLUC through its Gender and Development Office hosted a workshop titled “ABNKHGDG NA AKO! Using HGDG in Research and Extension Studies, Programs, and Projects” to strengthen gender-responsive approaches in institutional initiatives at the International Convention Center on March 20, 2025.

Dr. Junifer Rey E. Tabafunda, Chancellor delivered the opening remarks, emphasizing the university’s commitment to integrating gender and development (GAD) principles into research and extension programs. Prof. Ronica M. De Leon outlined the event’s purpose, followed by a message from Prof. Kenneth G. Bayani, Director of the Research Unit, who highlighted the importance of gender inclusivity in academic and community-based projects. The workshop aimed to familiarize participants with the HGDG framework, guide them in formulating gender-aligned proposals, and ensure the integration of GAD principles in their respective fields.

Dr. Macrina V. Batoon, Head of Gender and Development, introduced the resource speaker, Ms. Mariz Dafnae H. Mendoza, a member of the National GAD Resource Pool (NGRP). Ms. Mendoza conducted two key lectures: an introduction to the Harmonized Gender and Development Guidelines (HGDG) and the application of HGDG tools in research, extension, and other campus programs using the GAD checklist.

Attendees left the session with valuable insights into gender-responsive planning, empowering them to develop research and extension initiatives that adhere to national gender standards and promote inclusivity. (By Rochelle M. Verganio)
