Agoo, La Union — Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU) welcomed the Department of Labor and Employment in Agoo, La Union on February 20, 2025 for their Information and Service Caravan on Child Labor Prevention and Elimination. Government agencies, local officials, and community members supported the caravan to strengthen efforts against child labor.

The event began with registration at 8:30 AM, followed by a pre-program activity for child laborers and their families, including safety and emergency guidelines led by Engr. Rovan Airl C. Dipnalio, Assistant Labor Inspector. The Information Caravan provided an overview of Republic Act No. 9231, with Queen Vi Benedicto, a Community Facilitator from LUFO, presenting available programs and services to combat child labor.

The program officially opened with preliminaries at 9:30 AM, followed by welcome remarks from Veronica A. Corsino, Chief LEO/LUFO Head, and messages from Municipal Mayor Frank G. Sibuma and DMMMSU Chancellor Dr. Joanne C. Rivera.

Exequiel Ronie A. Guzman, Regional Director, delivered the keynote message. This was followed by the Signing of Pledge of Commitment to implement ILO Convention No. 190. Representatives of DOLE, NEDA, DSWD, CHR, and CSC joined in the activity.

An inspiring segment of the event was “Mga Kwento ng Tagumpay ng Mga Batang Malaya,” which featured success stories from former child laborers and their guardians.

Also, the Service Caravan, running from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, offered various services, including dental services, counseling, financial assistance, legal consultations, and skills training on massage. The event included interactive activities for children and Project Angel Tree, a community support initiative.

As part of the interactive activities prepared for the participants, the Headstart Organization from the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education of SLUC’s College of Education led several individual and group games, including a hunting game, fun-filled color games, relays, and the opportunity to cheerfully share the “Say Roar! Say Cute!” energy. The children joyfully participated in these games.  Ms. Honorina Dian-Baga, Assistant Regional Director, concluded the caravan with her closing remarks, highlighting the importance of sustained collaborative action in protecting children’s rights and promoting their well-being.
