Prof. Stella Domondon, a former faculty member specializing in special education (SPED) at DMMMSU, delivered a talk on inclusive English language instruction for children with special needs  as part of the virtual lecture series hosted by Sekolah Tinggi Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan (STKIP PGRI Pacitan) in Indonesia on December 3, 2024.

Attended by nearly 100 students and teachers from the English Education Program at STKIP PGRI Pacitan, the lecture aimed to enhance future educators’ competence in addressing diverse learners and fostering inclusive classroom environments.

Prof. Domondon discussed key topics, including an overview of teaching English to children with special needs, strategies and methods for inclusive English instruction, and practical examples of lesson plans and activities tailored for students with special needs.

During the session, Prof. Domondon emphasized the importance of adapting teaching methods to meet the unique needs of learners with disabilities. “Creating an inclusive classroom environment begins with understanding and embracing diversity in learning styles and abilities,” she added.

The event also featured an engaging Q&A session, where students actively participated in discussions about the challenges and opportunities of teaching English to students with varying abilities.

The guest lecture, part of STKIP PGRI Pacitan’s commitment to inclusive education, provided participants with valuable insights and practical knowledge on addressing the needs of children with disabilities. It also strengthened international academic collaboration between DMMMSU and educational institutions in Southeast Asia.

This initiative underscores the critical role of inclusive teaching practices in shaping future educators and advancing global efforts toward equitable education for all. (By Jesus Rafael B. Jarata)
