Dr. Jocelyn Floresca, Program Chair of the Bachelor of Physical Education in DMMMSU-SLUC, completed a two-week international Short Course on Organizing Major Sporting Events, sponsored by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED,) at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) from November 24 to December 8, 2024.

Dr. Floresca joined 24 other sports officials from 20 higher education institutions (HEIs) across the Philippines. Over 4,200 runners from 26 countries joined in the week-long program titled Organizing Major Sports Events and Promoting Sports Tourism.  This included a week of theoretical coursework in Kuala Lumpur and hands-on training in Langkawi.

During the theoretical sessions, Dr. Floresca and her fellow participants engaged with Malaysia’s top sports event organizers, including committees from the National and Paralympic Games and the Southeast Asian Games. They also toured facilities showcasing advanced sports science technologies and equipment.

The practical segment of the program allowed participants to gain firsthand experience in organizing a global sporting event by assisting in the preparation and execution of the Langkawi International Half Marathon. (By Jesus Rafael Jarata)
