DMMMSU-SLUC BSEd English faculty members were invited to the ESBE Roundtable discussion on Enhancing English Proficiency and Assessment for Global Competitiveness held at the Discovery Suites Manila on December 11, 2024.
Mr. John Mark G. Lachica, Program Chair of the SLUC-CE BSEd Program, and Ms. Abelynn T. Llarenas, Instruction Facilitator from the SLUC-College of Education, joined educators, researchers, and policymakers in a collaborative dialogue aimed at identifying solutions to enhance English language education and assessment across the Philippines.
Hosted by the British Council-Philippines, the event featured experts from several key institutions, including the British Council, Ateneo Center for English Language Teaching (ACELT), Bureau of Curriculum Development, Teacher Education Council, National Teachers College, and TESDA.
Discussions focused on the importance of English proficiency both within the Philippines and in the global context. A key highlight was the presentation of findings from the English as a Subject in Basic Education (ESBE) Scoping Study, which underscored the need for collective efforts to improve English language literacy and enhance global competitiveness.
