Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University – Sericulture Research and Development Institute (DMMMSU- SRDI) conducted a two-part training on novelty items at the SRDI Training Hall. A total of 76 students participated in the said training.

On November 21, 2024, 52 BS Agribusiness Management students from DMMMSU-North La Union Campus (NLUC) participated in the training as part of their indigenous creative crafts subject. The session introduced them to the process of creating novelty items such as cocoon flowers and birds.

A second session which was held on November 26, 2024, involved 24 students from the BS Agricultural Engineering (NLUC) and BS Textile and Fashion Technology (Mid La Union Campus) programs. Participants focused on making decorative items using dried cocoons, combining skills with artistry.

Trainers from the Post-Cocoon Research and Development Section, namely Ms. Flordeliza L. Gaudia, Ms. Fe C. Acosta, Ms. Emiliana S. Peralta, and Ms. Josie Florita C. Walker, served as the learning service providers. The session emphasized the importance of skill development in sericulture beyond research. Participants explored innovative ways to utilize cocoons, enhancing both their practical knowledge and creative abilities.

This training reflects SRDI’s commitment to nurturing future innovators, equipping students with both technical expertise and artistic vision while reinforcing the institute’s dedication to advancing sericulture and promoting sustainable creativity. (By Junalyn C. Dasugo)
