DMMMSU held a strategic planning workshop at the International Convention Center, DMMMSU-North La Union Campus, Bacnotan, La Union, October 21-22, 2024 in preparation for its strategic plan for 2025-2030.

Named as the DMMMSU Strategic Planning Workshop Series: Participatory Visioning Exercise (PaVE), the 2-day event served as an inaugural activity and platform for meaningful dialogue and collaboration, pooling together 170 top managers, function directors, administrators, faculty members, nonteaching personnel, students, alumni, and industry partners and leaders, and other key stakeholders.

The workshop harnessed diverse perspectives through participatory visioning, fostering a shared understanding of the university’s goals and aspirations, aligning with the needs of the community, industry, and the broader educational landscape. Further, it sets a clear and achievable direction for the university’s continued growth and excellence.

On the first day of the workshop, Ms. Racquel T. Atawe of NEDA-RO1 discussed the Ambisyon Natin 2040 and Region 1 Vision to orient the participants on the current national and regional development plan. At lunch, students and student leaders had a simultaneous informal conversation with the learning service providers. This was followed by the presentation of the results of the TiMEk ng ka-DonMariano Survey, a virtual survey designed to gather insights from DMMMSU stakeholders. Developed by NEDA RO1 and conducted by DMMMSU, the survey focused on key futures-thinking questions to understand stakeholders’ views on the university’s strengths, challenges, and future directions. Responses were consolidated from October 14-17, 2024.

Mr. Richard Mel P. Caplis of NEDA RO1 facilitated the group discussions geared towards the initial crafting of a new vision statement, vision tagline, strategic goals, and objectives for key areas, namely administration, instruction, research, and extension.

Discussions among groups identified under administration, instruction, research, and extension continued until the second day. The conference concluded with a Commitment Signing ceremony.

The workshop was spearheaded by the Office of Planning and Development, which played a crucial role in organizing and coordinating the workshop. Dr. Priscilo P. Fontanilla, Jr. led the team, with lead facilitators comprising Charlie C. De Vera, who designed the training, Roy N. Laquidan, Mary Jane B. Dulay, and Marissa R. Fangon. Also, Rowel Munar, Pura S. Obille, Buenaventura Caluscosin, Sheila E. Calica, Francison Rabelas, and Mia Rosely B. Crisostomo served as facilitators. (By Ayu)
