In support of the Elderly Filipino Week, DMMMSU, through the service of Ms. Perla A. Sotelo, University Focal Person for Senior Citizens and Disability Affairs, hosted activities as a heartfelt tribute to the invaluable contributions of senior citizens to society in partnership with the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office, PhilHealth RO1, and GSIS La Union Branch held at MLUC Covered Court on October 7, 2024.

This year’s theme, “Senior Citizens – Building the Nation, Inspiring Generations,” emphasizes the resilience and wisdom of the elderly as they continue to shape our communities.

DMMMSU extended this encouraging and warm invitation among retirees and senior personnel to participate in the series of invaluable events, particularly recognizing and promoting the values of our elderly and guiding young generations.

Dr. Eduardo C. Corpuz, MLUC Chancellor, warmly welcomed all participants and guests.

On behalf of the University President, Dr. Jaime I. Manuel Jr., Prof. Lilito D. Gavina, University Vice President for Administration and Quality Assurance, emphasized that respect for the elderly must not be forgotten.

Moreover, Dr. Elsie M. Pacho, Vice President for Academic and International Affairs, Dr. Ma. Teresa Y. Acantilado, Program Chair for MAME, and Prof. Melchor D. Salom, retired Director for Business Affairs, also delivered their messages on the importance of the occasion and the contributions of the senior citizens in the society.
The activities include a tribute program for the senior and retired personnel from all operating units in the University (MLUC, SLUC, NLUC, OUS, NARTDI, SRDI & from Central Administration), KADIWA pop-up stores, cultural presentations, and updates from GSIS and PhilHealth to raise awareness about senior citizen benefits and cultivate appreciation for the elderly’s role in nation-building.
