Dr. Joseph Patacsil, a faculty member of DMMMSU-MLUC, currently the designated University Graphics Designer, and the former MIS head of MLUC, participated in Community and Technological (CommTECH) Camp Highlight 2024 – Stream 2: Innovation in Engineering hosted by Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) in Surabaya, Indonesia from August 26 to September 6, 2024.

CommTECH Camp, a Project based Learning (PbL) program, paved the way for the exploration of the expertise of ITS in technology implementation through an immersive series of activities which include courses, visit to laboratories, demonstrations, and discussions with government and non-government agencies. To spice up the already insightful camp, ITS also prepared language courses, traditional music and dance performances, educational tours, and Indonesian foods.

With the theme, “Solving Local Problems with Global Knowledge,” this venture aimed to strengthen ties between and among institutions and develop a mutual goal for the future.

Innovation in Engineering is the second stream of the camp. During his stay, Dr. Patacsil engaged in workshops, seminars, and hands-on activities that incorporate sustainability. He witnessed ITS student demonstrations in car assembly which made them garner national and international awards in vehicle innovations. Diverse robotic creations were also featured in one of the sessions.

With these, Dr. Patacsil expressed that he gained a lot of knowledge during the training.

“The strategies they presented in innovating technologies are commendable, particularly in robotics and the Internet of Things (IoT) which I can share with my colleagues and students,” he added.

Being the leader of their group, Dr. Patacsil presented a project proposal entitled ITS green: Assessing the Green Metrics of ITS campus through IoT Innovation, with ITS experts as panels.

Through active participation and immersion in advanced technologies with international partners, DMMMSU brings renewed perspectives in the furtherance of its zeal for quality, relevant, and future-proof education. (by Gloeduard G. Milanes)
