Doctoral students hosted international ASEAN lecturers during the hybrid lecture series titled “Global Minds, Local Insights: Professorial Lecture Series with International Partners” as part of their course requirement in CCEA 301: Critical Perspectives and Comparative Studies in Education, on September 21, 2024.

The lecture series featured two prominent guest experts from the University’s partner universities in Vietnam and Indonesia. Dr. Nguyen Huu Cuong, Director for Quality Assurance at Van Lang University (VLU), Vietnam, talked about the “Higher Education in Vietnam: Policy and Practice in Quality Assurance of Transnational Education.” His insights on policy development and practical applications of quality assurance resonated deeply with the doctoral students, who gained invaluable understanding of global trends and challenges in higher education.

Ms. Benedicta Stella Fortunae, Head of International Mobility and Hospitality at Universitas Kristen Indonesia (UKI), followed with a discussion on “Indonesia’s Educational Practices: Foundations for Comparative Education,” highlighting the unique aspects of Indonesia’s educational framework and how it contributes to the study of comparative education. Her lecture gave the doctoral students practical examples of how Indonesia’s educational policies and cultural contexts inform educational development.

Through these lectures, the doctoral students were able to critically reflect on educational practices in ASEAN countries, applying the comparative and analytical tools they have discussed in CCEA 301.

The event also included an interactive forum, providing students with the opportunity to engage with the speakers. The closing remarks were delivered by Dr. Jesus Rafael B. Jarata, CCEA301 faculty-in-charge; and Dr. Fauslyn Gay U. Amongan, Perspectives in Education course’s faculty-in-charge—as the invited class for this activity.  (By Jesus Rafael B. Jarata)
