The DMMMSU-NLUC Gender and Development (GAD) Unit and Human Resource Management Office successfully hosted a Disability Awareness Seminar at the International Convention Center Hall B on September 26, 2024.
Dr. Junifer Rey E. Tabafunda, NLUC Chancellor, delivered a warm welcome to kick off the activity. Dr. Macrina V. Batoon, GAD Head, introduced the keynote speaker, Dr. Perla A. Sotelo, the University Focal Person for Senior Citizens and Disability Affairs.
The training was attended by the members of the Administrative Council, select faculty members, non-teaching staff, and student leaders.
Dr. Sotelo, herself a person with a disability, provided invaluable insights into disability awareness and rights. She delved into the historical context of disability and the legal framework in place to protect the rights of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs). Additionally, she addressed shared perceptions about people with disabilities.
Drawing from her personal experiences, Dr. Sotelo shared the University’s progress in gender and development through various initiatives. She wrapped up her talk by addressing the audience’s inquiries about providing appropriate care and services for people with disabilities. At the conclusion of the seminar, Mr. Felix Benigno N. Navalta, Non-Teaching Association (NTA) President, addressed the audience with his closing remarks. (By RMV)
