DMMMSU key officials, led by Dr. Jaime I. Manuel, Jr., University President, along with Professor Lilito D. Gavina, Vice President for Administration and Quality Assurance, and Professor Randulph I. Navasca, Director for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Services, welcomed Director Gregory M. Cayetano, Regional Director of Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Region 1 on September 9, 2024.

The meeting aims to comply with Section 14 of the Republic Act 10121 also known as the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010 which mandates the Department of Education (DepEd), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to integrate disaster risk education into school curricula.
The discussion focused on improving the safety, protection, and resilience of the University by strengthening DRRM doctrines and systems, infrastructures, plans, advocacy as well as cluster response.
Director Cayetano appreciated the DMMMSU’s participation in the implementation of the various OCD projects through the on-the-job training program and commended Dr. Manuel’s initiative in pursuing safe learning spaces. Additionally, he expressed anticipation for the University’s future participation in Gawad KALASAG (Kalamidad at Sakuna Labanan Sariling Galing ang Kaligtasan), an annual awarding ceremony for significant initiatives in the promotion and advancement of DRRM in the country.
