The DMMMSU-CHED LAKAS Probiotics Team, in collaboration with the Office of the Vice President for Research, Development, and Innovation, conducted a comprehensive hands-on training session focused on DNA barcoding of bacterial isolates from indigenous food plants of La Union at the DMMMSU CHED LAKAS Probiotics Laboratory on August 2, 2024.
This session aimed to achieve several key objectives: providing participants with a foundational understanding of DNA extraction principles and their relevance to probiotics research, offering practical experience with essential laboratory techniques, and teaching students how to tackle common issues in DNA extraction such as contamination and low yield.
The training was designed to equip DMMMSU students with the skills necessary to make meaningful contributions to probiotics research and development. The program involved five (5) Bachelor of Science in Biology students and four (4) Bachelor of Science in Agriculture students from North La Union Campus (NLUC), who received valuable training to advance their research capabilities.
This training is part of the CHED LAKAS-approved project titled Advancing Ilocos IFP Food Systems through Academia-Industry Collaborative Research and Innovations toward Healthy Food Security. (jrjarata)
