A group of senior citizens from Diadi, Nueva Vizcaya, led by their community leaders, visited Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University – National Apiculture Research, Training and Development Institute (DMMMSU-NARTDI) on July 5, 2024. Their visit aimed to benchmark apiculture or beekeeping as a possible income-generating activity.
Mr. Arvin C. Tuyan, Head of the Extension Division at NARTDI, provided the delegation with an in-depth on-site discussion at the apiary. He emphasized the significance of beekeeping and the valuable benefits that could be derived from these industrious insects.
The eager seniors actively participated in the discussion, inquiring about the steps to start a beekeeping venture and the estimated start-up costs.
The visit holds promise for economic empowerment among the senior citizens and underscores the invaluable role of NARTDI in bridging knowledge gaps and empowering rural communities through beekeeping or apiculture. (By Arvin C. Tuyan)
