To recognize and showcase notable scholarly accomplishments and celebrate academic excellence of students, Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University —  University of Research, Development, and Innovation (DMMMSU-URDI) Unit conducted the 2024 University Selection for Best Thesis and Dissertation for technical and social research categories on June 6-7, 2024, respectively, at Multi-Purpose Hall, DMMMSU Open University System (OUS), Catbangen, San Fernando City, La Union.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Bernardo D. Lamadrid, Executive Director of DMMMSU-OUS, underscored the importance of academic rigor and innovation in shaping the future of education and research.

The following technical studies won best research tilts:  Undergraduate thesis titled See Turtles: Across-Platform Application for Safeguarding Endangered Ecology of Marine Turtles by  Ram Adrian N. Gacutan, Lily Ann M. Ugay, Rizalyn B. Florague, and Dennis Loren P. Tacubanza; graduate thesis, titled Flora Diversity of Mt. Katayagan, Agoo, La Union by Mr. Ivan G. Ticquey of the South La Union Campus; and dissertation titled Digital-Based Hybrid Learning in Mathematics by Mr. Jon-jon Orpilla. 

Under the social sciences category, Lovely C. Lucina and Genoa P. Sabado won the best undergraduate research. Their study is titled Ethnomedicinal Survey Used by the Bago-Kankanaey communities in Alilem, Ilocos Sur, Philippines. On the other hand, Mr. Jean Lawrence S. Rodriguez of DMMMSU-SLUC, won the best master’s thesis. His study is titled Genre Acquisition of Senior School Students: Move Analysis of Results and Discussion in Research Writing. Finally, Ms. Maribeth J. Valdez of DMMMSU-NLUC won the best dissertation. Her study is titled  Reading Proficiency of Grade 6 Learners in the Division of Candon City: Basis for a Validated Reading Intervention Material. 

The search for the best research fosters a vibrant research culture in the University.
