The International Affairs (IA) team from the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU) has successfully returned from a productive faculty exchange program at Daffodil International University (DIU) in Bangladesh, held from May 13-18, 2024. The team, comprising IA University Director Dr. Jesus Rafael B. Jarata and University Coordinator for Cross-Border Education Mr. Jerald U. Saculles, brought significant insights and strategic plans to enhance the university’s international collaborations and academic exchange initiatives. The program is made possible under the renewed partnership between DMMMSU and DIU.

During their week-long engagement, Dr. Jarata and Mr. Saculles participated in various academic and administrative discussions, focusing on expanding DMMMSU’s global footprint.

Dr. Jarata had three lectures: storytelling on social media, traditions of communication, and digital communication for MA students. He was also invited as judge and panel discussant during the Media Buzz organized by DIU’s Department of Journalism, Media & Communication.

Meanwhile, Mr. Saculles conducted lectures on Language and Culture, the Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis, and Contemporary Issues in English Language Teaching at DIU’s  Department of English.

Both of them also went through recording sessions of selected topics for the International Open University at the Media Lab of DIU.

The partnership with DIU marks a significant step forward for DMMMSU’s strategic goals. “Our experience at Daffodil International University was immensely valuable,” said Dr. Jarata. “We explored several collaborative opportunities, including student and faculty exchanges, joint research projects, and the implementation of Erasmus+ strategies that will greatly benefit our institution.”

The DMMMSU IA team’s visit to Bangladesh strengthened existing ties and laid the groundwork for future collaborations. “We already had exploratory meetings with other foreign lecturers from Turkey, Romania, India, and the USA for possible collabs soon,” Dr. Jarata mentioned.

Mr. Saculles highlighted the mutual benefits of the partnership, noting that both universities are committed to fostering academic excellence and cultural exchange. “This program has opened doors for our faculty and students to gain international exposure and experience,” he stated.

Syed Raihan, Deputy Director of International Affairs at DIU, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration. “We were delighted to host the DMMMSU team,” said Raihan. “Their visit was a testament to the power of international cooperation in higher education. We are excited about the potential joint initiatives emerging from this partnership, which will greatly benefit our students and faculty.”
