Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU) and Cagayan State University (CSU) renewed and strengthened their long-time partnership in beekeeping by inking a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) at the DMMMSU International Convention Center (ICC), DMMMSU North La Union Campus (DMMMSU-NLUC) in Sapilang, Bacnotan, La Union on April 16, 2024. Key officials and representatives from DMMMSU and CSU attended the signing ceremony, including faculty members, researchers, and administrators.

Under the renewed MOA, DMMMSU and CSU will collaborate on research and extension activities. The partnership will also facilitate sharing of resources, expertise, and best practices between the two institutions, further enhancing their capabilities and impact.

It reaffirms the commitment of both institutions to continue their collaborative efforts in various beekeeping endeavors, research initiatives, and community development projects for the next five years. It builds upon the successes and achievements of their previous partnership, which began several years ago. With a shared commitment to innovation and sustainability, the partnership between DMMMSU and CSU aims to develop and promote the Apiculture industry in Cagayan Valley continuously.  

“Our partnership with DMMMSU exemplifies the spirit of cooperation and mutual support that is essential for academic institutions. We will continue to explore new avenues for collaboration and create meaningful opportunities,” remarked Dr. Arthur G. Ibañes, the President of CSU, conveying his enthusiasm for the renewed partnership.

Likewise, Dr. Jaime I. Manuel Jr., the President of DMMMSU, expressed his gratitude for the transformed partnership. “The collaboration between DMMMSU and CSU has greatly benefited both institutions and the communities they serve. By renewing this partnership, we are strengthening our ties and amplifying our collective impact in advancing beekeeping with Apis mellifera and Stingless bees.”

As both institutions look forward to the next phase of their partnership, they remain committed to upholding the highest standards for excellence, promoting research, development, and innovation, and making meaningful contributions to advancing knowledge and improving society.

The two universities also formalized agreements for sericulture (silkworm rearing) and salt production. The Memorandum of Agreement was signed with DMMMSU-Sericulture Research and Development Institute (SRDI) for sericulture and with DMMMSU-Fisheries Research and Training Institute (FRTI) for salt production.
