“Their consistent support and inexhaustible passion herald a culture of healing and humanism that reverberates beyond the confines of La Union,” he said.
President Manuel also extends special thanks to His Excellency Ferdinand “Bongbong” Romualdez Marcos, Jr. and all the legislators who supported the approval of House Bill No. 7090 until it was approved as Republic Act No. 11978.
Below is the continuation of President Manuel’s official statement:
“DMMMSU is most indebted to His Excellency President FERDINAND ROMUALDEZ MARCOS, JR.; the Members of the Senate, especially Hon. FRANCIS “CHIZ” G. ESCUDERO, the principal sponsor and the co-sponsors, namely Hon. JOEL VILLANUEVA, Hon. FRANCIS “TOL” N. TOLENTINO, Hon. ROBINHOOD C. PADILLA, and Hon. CHRISTOPHER LAWRENCE T. GO; the Members of the House of Representatives, especially Hon. DANTE S. GARCIA, the principal author, and the coauthors, namely Hon. MARK O. GO, Hon. MIKAELA ANGELA B. SUANSING, Hon. ANTONIETA R. EUDELA, and Hon. EULOGIO R. RODRIGUEZ.
The establishment of the College of Medicine in DMMMSU, which is the lone State University in La Union, is consistent with the goals of the Republic Act No. 11509, otherwise known as Doktor para sa Bayan Act, which “ensures the availability of doctors who will provide basic, promotive, preventive, and curative healthcare services to underserved, remote, economically underprivileged, distressed, conflict-afflicted, and geographically disadvantaged areas.”
In addition, DMMMSU’s College of Medicine hopes to provide deserving medical aspirants in La Union and nearby Provinces with accessible, comprehensive, equitable, and quality medical education. They are, in turn, expected to pay forward to the community by helping ensure health equity where everyone will have a fair and just opportunity to attain the highest level of health; overcome economic, social, and other obstacles to health and health care, and eliminate preventable health disparities.
Finally, DMMMSU’s College of Medicine will be a beacon that echoes care and compassion for all!”
