The DMMMSU Library Services & Development Unit concluded its month-long celebration of the 33rd Library and Information Services Month (LISM) and the 89th National Book Week (NBW) with a triumphant awarding and culminating activity on November 15, 2023, at the DMMMSU-MLUC Main Library.
With the theme “LETS Libraries: Learning, Empowering, and Transforming Society Through Libraries” and “Read. Reread. Relive.” respectively, the celebration aimed to underscore the crucial role libraries play in the continuous learning, empowerment, and societal transformation.
As part of the celebration, the LSD team spearheaded series of contests to engage the whole DMMMSU Community. These activities include a Book Face Contest for Student Body Organization (SBO) Officers; Poster Making Contest for all College Students; Anong Kwentong DMMMSU Libraries Mo? for DMMMSU Alumni; Virtual Storytelling Contest for Grades 1-3 learners; Library Book Hunt for Junior and Senior High learners; and Spoken Poetry for all DMMMSU students.
The following outstanding individuals and team emerged victorious in their respective contests and were awarded:
Book Face Contest

Dr. Elsie M. Pacho, Vice President for Academic and International Affairs, in her message, emphasized the transformative power of libraries and education. She ended her message with the following words “The journey is vast, the challenges are many, but with libraries as our compass, we stride forward into a future of enlightenment, empowerment, and boundless possibilities.
May we all find our way toward our libraries and may we all find meaning as we immerse ourselves in the books that we read.”
On the other hand, Dr. Sonia B. Siago, Director for Library Services and Development, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all participants and sponsors for their invaluable contributions to the success of the celebration. Dr. Siago also thanked the Gunglo Dagiti Mannurat ti Iloko (GUMIL) for their utmost support in all of the endeavors of the LSD.
As the curtains fall on this year’s LISM and NBW celebration, the DMMMSU Library Services & Development looks forward to building on this momentum, continuing to foster a culture of learning, empowerment, and societal transformation through its library services and resources.
