Four (4) debaters from the Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (BAPoS) of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University – Mid La Union Campus (DMMMSU-MLUC) won the championship round against Lorma Colleges in the Salip ti Sirib: The Intercollegiate Debate Tournament held at San Juan, La Union on Wednesday, November 15.

The team comprised Kelvin Carino, Rejay Abel, Jeym Rhavey Mendoza, and Blessy Ross Cayago with Dr. Dulce M. Rodriguez, BAPoS Chairperson, and Prof. Fritz Krieg Allawey as their coaches.

The debate addressed the motion that the house does support allowing parents to select non-medical genetic traits for their children, whereas the MLUC representatives took the opposition side.

Additionally, two (2) of the mentioned debaters were awarded for their exemplary performance, with Abel bagging the Best Speaker Award and Mendoza taking home the Best Debater Award.

In an interview, Abel expressed his gratitude for the people who helped and guided the team.

“Preparing for this debate competition was challenging because we were faced with schoolwork, activities, and other responsibilities. However, the training and pieces of advice from our very competent and supportive coaches, Sir Fritz and Ma’am Dulce, as well as our Dean, Sir Hart, helped us get through the challenge,” Abel said.

“Matter loading was tough. Actually, we only slept for three hours before going into the competition, but we just reminded ourselves to enjoy the journey, do our best, and pray,” he added.
