Dr. Andie John D. Tadeo and Ms. Danica May Lawagan, DMMMSU faculty members, are currently engaging in an extensive educational journey in Thailand. They are participating in professional training courses and international conferences to advance their knowledge in tropical aquaculture and fisheries.
The training, which spans from November 7 to November 30, 2023, encompasses various events, including the “Recent Advances in Tropical Aquaculture, Aquaculture Nutrition, and Feed Technology” training course, the 11th International Fisheries Symposium (IFS 2023), and the Global Meet on Giant Prawn 2023, all hosted by Asian Institute of Technology (AIT).
This educational endeavor has been made possible through the generous funding of the Commission on Higher Education under the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA). The funding is part of the “Leveling-up Philippine Higher Education Institutions in Agriculture, Fisheries, and Natural Resources” (LevelUPHEI AFAR) project.
The training course on tropical aquaculture and aquaculture nutrition is designed to offer in-depth insights into best practices in fish farming. It encompasses a wide range of activities, including lectures, hands-on training, and field visits to commercial fish farms, which showcase innovations in the field. These field visits include stops at tilapia and sea bass hatcheries, an innovative shrimp farm, marine fish recirculating aquaculture systems, public aquariums, and commercial feed mills.
Additionally, the participation of Dr. Tadeo and Ms. Lawagan in the 11th International Fisheries Symposium (IFS 2023) and the Global Meet on Giant Prawn 2023 will serve as a platform where they can present their research studies related to fisheries. Dr. Tadeo will present his research project on saline tilapia, while Ms. Lawagan will share her paper on fish feed and nutrition.
This remarkable educational journey underscores DMMMSU faculty members’ commitment to enhancing their aquaculture and fisheries expertise. (By Ayu)
