DMMMSU-SLUC’s Biological and Physical Sciences Department and College of Graduate Studies have completed their “Bioliteracy: A Capability Training for Science Teachers” extension project. This initiative, comprised of three series, was designed to enhance the laboratory skills of Diocesan Science Teachers teaching Physics, Biology, Ecology, and Chemistry.
Led by experts from the Biological and Physical Sciences Department and the College of Graduate Studies, the training covered a wide range of topics, including microscopic techniques, molecular biology, microbes, biodiversity assessment, chemical kinetics, solution preparation, titration, and laboratory safety.
Contributors to the program include Mr. Christian Jay A. Mabitazan, Dr. Glennadi R. Rualo, Dr. Precelita L. Osillos, Ms. Beatriz E. Aspiras, Dr. Frederick G. Tadifa, Prof. Dan Vergel M. Masiong, Mr. Mardale I. Olarte, and Mr. Francisco L. Soriano, Jr.
The training, which started with 43 participants and ended with 30 completers, was conducted through virtual sessions and in-person workshops at the New CAS Building, DMMMSU-SLUC, Agoo, La Union. Participants were engaged in practical activities like DNA extraction, titration, and microbiological techniques.
Research by Dr. Mary Corinne R. Selga and Dr. Maria Cristina B. Bandarlipe served as a framework to the extension program. (By Maria Cristina B. Bandarlipe)
