DMMMSU has introduced a progressive provision in its Collective Negotiation Agreement (CNA), extending lactating mothers a one-hour break every day for six months.
This is one of the key amendments in the collaborative negotiations between the DMMMSU administration and faculty and nonteaching associations.
This initiative shows DMMMSU’s commitment to recognizing and supporting the rights of women and LGBTQ groups while emphasizing the special care for mothers within the institution. The provision also acknowledges the unique needs of lactating mothers and affirms their right to have a designated time for breastfeeding during working hours.
President Jaime I. Manuel, Jr. forwarded the plan for designating a lactating room for every College and Unit in the University to ensure the convenience of both the mother and the baby during the lactation break.
This provision also aligns with Republic Act No. 10028 of the Philippines, also known as the “Expanded Breastfeeding Promotion Act of 2009.” This law promotes and supports breastfeeding by providing lactating employees in the public and private sectors with lactation breaks and facilities to express breast milk during working hours. It ensures that working mothers have the necessary support to continue breastfeeding while fulfilling their professional responsibilities. (By Ayu)
