DMMMSU’s College of Community Health and Allied Medical Sciences (CCHAMS) commemorated its 18th capping, pinning, and candle-lighting ceremonies at the  Jose D. Aspiras Hall on October 6, 2023. The event, themed “Burning Hearts, Igniting Passion: Cultivating Excellence in Nursing Education for a Resilient, Globally Prepared Workforce,” heralded the readiness of 173 second-year nursing students for their hospital and community duties.

The ceremony began with a Thanksgiving Mass officiated by Rev. Fr. Lloyd Edgardo Manzano, followed by a procession of the candidates. Dr. Fauslyn Gay Amongan, Campus Head of Instruction, welcomed the attendees. Following the opening remarks, Prof. Laiza A. Niduaza, Director for Instruction, delivered a message on behalf of University President Dr. Jaime I. Manuel Jr.

Ms. Claire Tabisula-Fonbuena, Chief Nurse of La Union Medical Center, served as the Guest of Honor and Speaker. In her speech, she emphasized the crucial role of nurses in the global healthcare system. She also commended CCHAMS for its dedication to nurturing future healthcare leaders.

The ceremony’s highlight was the capping and pinning of badges and the distribution of nurses’ lamps, symbolizing the students’ commitment to their profession. Ms. Jewel Llavore, a CCHAMS instructor, portrayed Florence Nightingale during the Lighting of the Vigil Candle, followed by the Florence Nightingale Pledge led by Ms. Danica Yanga, a BS Nursing Level 2 student.

The ceremony ended with a performance of “A Million Dreams” and the CCHAMS loyalty song by the newly capped and pinned student nurses. After which was the delivery of closing remarks from Prof. Gabriel Bacungan. (By Lovely Anne Pagaduan)
