Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU) South La Union Campus held a two-day training titled, “Record Management System – Digitalization of Records, Record Keeping, Archiving, and Disposal based on ISO Standards” at the Teacher’s Training Center from October 11 to 12, 2023.

The training covered the basics of Records Management to the Records Disposition Program, aligning with strict ISO standards.  

On the first day, Ms. Remelyn Almodovar, the University Records Officer, elucidated the fundamentals of Records Management, including its functions, importance, and the concept of Records Life Cycle, among other topics. Participants were also engaged in a workshop to solidify their understanding and to promote interactive learning.

On the second day, Mr. Arturo C. Flores, Supply Officer of DMMMSU MLUC discussed the Records Disposition Program.  

The discussions for day 2 ranged from establishing retention periods and records appraisal to developing a records disposition schedule and procedures for records disposal in line with RA 9470. Participants were also engaged in a workshop to solidify their understanding of the topics and to offer the participants hands-on experience that reflected the practical application of the discussed concepts.

Through this training, DMMMSU seeks not only to standardize the Records Management workflow within the offices and units but also to protect the university’s vital historical, fiscal, and legal records to ensure a robust and compliant records management system that enhances workflow efficiency within the institution.

The initiative was headed by Team Leader Prof. Christine Joy Ugay and Lead Facilitator Ms. Cecilia S. Sanchez, with the assistance of Ms. Jenifher de Vera and other Human Resource Management Office (HRMO) staff facilitators. (By Zander Christopher Mercado)
