The College of Fisheries, in collaboration with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), celebrated the 60th Fish Conservation Week last September 19-20, 2023.

Dean Faith S. Tadeo welcomed the participants to the two-day event anchored on the theme “Masaganang pangisdaan, maunlad na ekonomiya.”

Dr. Lemnuel V. Aragones, a Professor from the University of the Philippines Diliman’s Institute of Environmental Science and Meteorology, graced the first day with his talk and his educational film “Bakawan,” which focused on the ecological and economic significance of specific Philippine Marine Mammals.

The second day featured diverse activities designed to align with the event’s overarching theme. The participants engaged in a cooking contest, essay writing, spoken poetry, on-the-spot charcoal rendering, and a quiz bowl. In addition, amazing race was conducted. The event also highlighted the Search for Mr. & Ms. Fish Conservation 2023.

The two-day celebration strengthened the sense of sustainable fisheries management and food security among students enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Fisheries program.
