DA-BFAR took off in its efforts to revive the salt industry in Cagayan Province and tapped DMMMSU as the learning service provider. The first skills training on Solar Sea Salt Making was held at Ballesteros, Cagayan on July 3-4, 2023. Dr. Andie John D. Tadeo, Director of DMMMSU North La Union Campus, Fisheries Research and Training Institute, was invited to share his extensive knowledge and experience in the field of salt making.

The training attracted active participation from existing salt producers in Ballesteros, Cagayan along with the members of the Fisherfolk Association and the Barangay Officials in Barangay Cabaritan West. During his lectures, Dr. Tadeo underscored the environmentally friendly, economical, and practical nature of their solar sea salt technology, which resonated well with the attendees.

Throughout the training program, the participants acquired invaluable insights into the utilization of High-density Polyethylene in salt production. Encouragingly, the Provincial Fishery Officer of Cagayan, Ms. Jennifer T. Tattao, alongside other officials from BFAR and the Local Government Unit, provided unwavering support and guidance for the training initiative. These collaborative efforts highlighted the commitment of all stakeholders involved in rejuvenating the salt industry in Cagayan Province. (By Ayu)
